Escale is a brand for designer lights made in Germany that combine timeless design and modern technology.

The story of Escale began with the acquaintance and later friendship of Leonhard Bopp, the managing director of the company Bopp Leuchten, and the freelance designer Mosru Mohiuddin. In 1988, the two decided to design lamps that were timeless, not subject to a pricing scheme and did not have to meet customer expectations - lamps in which the designer and company could develop creatively. Whether the product range would even sell was not that relevant in this initial phase. After the first presentations of these extraordinary lighting objects in the early 1990s, at that time still under the name Bopp Leuchten, it was seen that the customer base was completely different than for the usual Bopp lights. This is how Escale was founded in 1991.

The name Escale was derived from “escalate” and refers to the creative escalation of the two managing directors. Initially, the Escale lamps continued to be marketed together with the Bopp range until the two brands were finally separated in mid-1995. Escale established itself as an independent brand in the exclusive lighting segment. Escale always remains true to her principles. For example, all lights are made in Germany.
