The LED table lamp Atman by Catellani & Smith projects a broad, organic light cone onto the wall. Enzo Catellani drew inspiration for this light during a travel in India. "Atman" is a Sanskrit word and designates a Hindu concept which is very similar to the soul.
Atman has an oval body of crystal glass, resting on a nickel-plated base. It is compact and small, never domineering, and nearly vanishes when the light is off. Transparency, no-frills design and handy size contribute to this effect. When the light is switched on, a much larger halo of light appears on the wall or ceiling. Depending on the position of the lamp, the lighting effect is altered, reminiscent of a luminous crack in the wall, of an eye or a light column.
